fabulous renaissance jewels

Pendant: Venus and Cupid Astride a Sea Monster    Date: ca. 1580 (?)  Culture: Italian or German  Medium: Gold, enamel, rubies and pearls:

Pendant in the form of a double-tailed mermaid (or melusine – a nixie), in the style of the 16th century. Enamelled gold, set with faceted point-cut diamonds and rubies and hung with pearls; the body is a pink tourmaline bead.  Austrian or Hungarian, sometime between 1850 -1900:
